Summary
As we cultivate our relationship with Christ we are setting the foundation for a life-long marriage as ordained by God. First and foremost, we must pray and ask God to prepare us as individuals. Whether you are working through issues with a spouse, or a single person who has prayed for the right marriage partner, you have to establish and solidify your own relationship with God first.
The Crux of the Matter
As Matthew 6:33 states, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." It was God that instituted marriage, so it is crucial that we keep Him in the center of our lives and our dealings with our mates. Just as God opens doors in our lives in other areas, He will guide your steps and help you find that right person. However, it is important that we rely on Him completely, and that we look with our spiritual eye, and not just the natural eye.
We should not try to find a mate just for the sake of getting married.
It should be because it is God's will for us.
Don't be discouraged if the person God sends you is someone that you were not expecting. Remember, God has plans for our lives that we cannot always comprehend (Jeremiah 29:11). If we remain in right standing with Him, praying and seeking only His will, we will have a life-long relationship not only with our partner, but with Christ also.
