Summary
To be a Christian means to be a follower of Christ and to live as Christ lived. Whether you will have to give up your lifestyle depends on what kind of lifestyle you now live. In becoming a Christian you are either creating or furthering your relationship with God. In any relationship changes will be made, but what you do for God is a decision you make with His guidance.
The Crux of the Matter
In becoming a Christian, your relationship with God will blossom as you learn to love Him and your neighbors (Matthew 22:37-39). As with any relationship, people grow and change. Looking back over the past ten years, you've likely made choices about things such as your hair, your clothes, or where you live. These choices have changed you from the person you were then into the person you are now, but these changes happened gradually and over time. By becoming a Christian, you will change but it will be a gradual process with guidance from the Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6).
A local church that is truly directed by God will help you nurture your relationship with Him, and should not force you to make changes you are not ready for. Once you see how wonderful your life is with God in it, you will want to make changes to continually improve your relationship with Him.
